Herve Villemade 2014 Cheverny Rouge. 50% Gamay, 50% Pinot Noir. 12% ABV. Louis-Dressner Imports. A punch-like fresh raspberry nose layered over deeper, funky and earthy aromas. Strikes me as likely partially carbonically macerated. Slightly fizzy acidity. Bright, playful, long, and silken in the mouth, continuing the really interesting rapport between the fruit-bowl and the funk. (If I were prone to absurd vinous metaphors I'd say "think puppies cavorting under a crimson bedsheet," but of course I'm not, so I won't.) We opened this after a cocktail party for a friend's 50th and resolved only to have half the bottle, but damn if we didn't drain it. Uncharacteristically, I have no record of where I bought this, which is too bad, because I see from the interwebs that it's around $18.00, which means we're going to need more for spring and summer. Really delicious stuff.
cheers, Patchen
