Burgenlandischer Winzer Verband Rust Ruster Trockenbeeren Auslese Rust-Neusiedlersee (11%-13%; Bttld in 1983) Zentralkellerei-am Rusterberg 1981: Somewhat tawney/brown/Oloroso sherry color; rather earthy/dusty/smokey some botrytis/apricotty ripe/LateHrvstyZin slight lifted/volatile quite complex beautiful nose; somewhat tart/tangy rather botrytis/apricotty/cranberry/pomengranate some earthy/dusty fairly sweet (3%-5%?)beautiful/complex flavor; very long/lingering somewhat sweet dusty/earthy strong botrytis/cranberry/pomengranate very complex finish; shows no signs of oxidation; a beautiful complex/exotic dessert red. $19.00 (HH)

1. This was a botrytis dessert red wine from my orphan stash. It should have been totally shot. It was not...it was terrific & exotic.
Botrytis destroys the anthocynanins that give a red wine its color, giving them a murky/ugly brownish color. This reminded me a lot of some of DickPeterson's Botrytis PinotNoirs that he made early on at TheMontereyVnyd...which were very interesting wines that he made...just cause you could. Nobody does that anymore...easier to do an anti-fungus spray in the vnyd.
