2004 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pora - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (3/31/2016)
Right from the moment I pulled the cork this had a gorgeous perfume of flowers, spice, meat and red fruit. It still has some serious spine to resolve, but with food it settles in an plays nice. The more air it gets the sterner the tannins become, so clearly much more time is warranted, but wow the aromas. Just lovely.

2004 Produttori wines are wonderful, especially the riservas.

Hi Jeff!

Agreed that the 2004s are lovely. This was the first from my cellar that I had opened since shortly after release. I will now ignore the rest for 5 more years.

Hi David. I don't have much set aside -- I only buy a little of each thing -- but these would have been worth giving more space to.

Thanks for the update. I had a 2000 PdB Moccagatta a few months ago and it was brutally, shockingly tannic and charmless... on Day 1. Day 2 it came out of its shell, sweetened and softened considerably, and ended up lovely, aromatic and engaging. Still, Day 1 made me rethink how long to age these.

Sounds really nice!

Pora is one that we don't get here reliably, although I have 1990 and 1995.

I have a local retailer who generally stocks all 9. I tend to buy Rabaja, Montestefano and Asili, but sometimes I branch out.
