WTN: 2002 Krug Champagne

2002 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut - France, Champagne (3/24/2016)
Tasted as part of an overall Krug event at Table & Vine with 6 other wines, this may not have been the standout for current drinking, but it showed the most potential. Initially it was overpowering in saline and iodine elements, and only after 30 minutes or so did the fruit and yeasty elements come out. The crunchy tree fruit (apple, unripe peach) and floral aromas dominated eventually, with the saline elements returning after even more time. The depth was impressive, the structural acids bracing, and the overall impression was of a powerhouse that will enjoy decades of profitable aging and drinking. A great Vintage Krug.
