A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I have followed Ojai Syrahs from the very start, the '82, made from Adam's original Estate grapes there in Oakview. The basic SBC Syrah has always been a no-brainer purchase for me...one of the real Syrah values out there. They have always been a junior version of Adam's vnyd-designate Syrahs. And they've aged amazingly well. We have a long history together.
This new SBC Syrah struck me as a bit different from previous Ojai SBC Syrah. Still definitevily Ojai Syrah, this struck me as a bit lighter in style, less bass notes and more high-toned, less oak w/ an emphasis on the floral aspects of Syrah. Quite a nice Ojai Syrah it is.

I just had the '13 tonight, at a restaurant that had an otherwise dismal list. I was impressed by how integrated and well-put-together the wine was. I think the bottle might have been open a while (it was a BTG pour), but was still pleasing to drink, plenty of flavor, balanced, not marked by oak, tasted of Syrah, savoury, somewhat earthy. Just all around good to accompany with a Jambalaya that was nowhere near its match.
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...
