WTN: Qupe Syrah Ibarra-Young '13...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Mar 16, 2016 10:25 am

Continuing to Pobega my recent Qupe shipment, I cracked last night:
1. Qupe Syrah Ibarra-YoungVnyd/SantaYnezVlly (13.6%; www.Qupe.com) 2013: Dark color; strong dusty/earthy/bit Rhonish/Cornas-like strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah/spicy light smokey/oak very attractive nose; rather tart/lean/tight bit rustic/Rhonish/earthy/dusty/Cornas-like light smokey/pungent some blueberry/blackberry/Syrah/fairly spicy flavor w/ modest wirey/tangy tannins; long rather tart/tangy/lean/tight rather blueberry/blackberry/Syrah some earthy/dusty bit smokey/pungent/Rhonish finish w/ light hard/angular tannins; badly needs 3-8 yrs of age; a rather lean/tight/Rhonish/Cornas rustic-like Syrah that is underwhelming right now. $35.00

1. Nice write-up on Ibara-Young here:
Ibarra-Young
This wine is rather typical of young Qupe Syrahs....underwhelming and only gives hints of the glories this wine reveal down the road. Exactly the kind of wine that gets you exiled to the MonktownWoodshed. Having tasted this blind, I would not give the wine a second thought. But it's a BobLindquist Syrah....sometimes you just gotta believe!!!
