ArbeGarbe SonomaCnty WW (14%; 45% Pagani TocaiFriulano/35% Catie'sCorner MalvasiaBianca/20% Tanya'sVnydRibollaGialla) 2014: Med.light gold color; very fragrant/perfumed/Malvasia/floral/peach blossoms/orange blossom very aromatic lovely nose; quite tart bit honeyed very floral/orange blossom/Malvasia slight tangy/metallic clean/bright/fresh/vibrant flavor; very long tart/bright/zippy bit tangy/steely/metallic very floral/orange blossom finish; much like a Carso Malvasia d'Istriana but w/o the stony minerality; a beautiful white. $37.00

1. This is the wnry of EnricoBertoz & LetiziaPauletto. Enrico is asst winemaker for FloraSprings. Both hail from Friuli and strive to make Friulian-style wines. When I was in Friuli in Oct, I tried a lot of Malvasia d'Istriana's, many made w/ some skin-contact. This ArbeGarbe is a pretty fair relative to those (non-skin-contact) that I tried there.
The Tokai came from old-vine stuff planted at PaganiRanch. Back in the day, there was a lot of SauvignonVert planted in Calif, where it made dreadfully dull whites. SauvVert in Chile is known to be TokaiFriulano. It is felt that most of the Calif old SauvVert plantings are, in fact, Muscadelle. But the TTB is rather lax in calling it Muscadelle or TokaiFriulano. Alas, there is no plantings (of which I know) of Malvasia d'Istraina.
I purchased three btls of this from the Invino shop at a much cheaper price. Alas, a few days later when I went back to order more, they'd already sold out.
