WTN: Carlisle Syrah SonomaCnty '14..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Mar 14, 2016 11:36 am

Tried this last night w/ Steve:
1. Carlisle Syrah SonomaCnty (14.2%; 500 cs; BennettVlly/Papa'sBlock/PasoRobles; U/U) 2014: Very dark color; slight reduced/pungent that clears to intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah some cold-climate/peppery very spicy very light toasty/oak beautiful nose; lightly tart/tangy very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/very spicy bit savory/herbal/thyme very spicy/peppery light toasty/oak flavor w/ some angular/tangy tannins; very long tart/tangy strong blackberry/Syrah/peppery/very spicy bit ripe/boysenberry light toasty/oak structured finish w/ some angular/rough tannins; needs a yr yet and should go out 5-10 yrs; speaks strongly of c-c/BennettVlly; a stupid/silly steal at this price. $24.50

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This was bttld under screwcap. Bravo. In the 2014 vintage, Mike released a SonomaCnty Zin and a SonomaCnty Syrah at very/very attractive prices. Two of the best values I've seen in some time. I slightly preferred this Syrah to the Zin. I think this Syrah is still available. In his newsletter, he scolded us to back up the truck (I think he suggested an 18-wheeler). He was, of course, right.
