A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The Malvasia is presumably the standard Malvasia Bianco, rather than my favorite Malvasia d'Istriana.
I'm a big fan of Vermentino, especially if it comes from Liguria. In Piemonte, it is known as Pigato and some of those are quite good. And Vermentino from ElDorado and PasoRobles is very good. OTOH, there has been a lot of Vermentino planted in Tuscany and the ones I've tried have been pretty underwhelming...a bit on the soft/dull side. This Montauto is, by far, the best Tuscan Vermentino I've tried, no doubt because of the perfume contributed by the Malvasia. Quite a nice wine.
