Why Did I Buy This?

by Dan Smothergill » Tue Mar 08, 2016 7:55 pm

When wine shopping I look at the shelf tags to see if a wine might be interesting, knowing that many of them are written by the wineries and others with an interest in sales. But when I get home and open the bottle I've forgotten why I bought it and what it is supposed to go with. Here's a modest suggestion that would help the consumer and might promote sales. Program cash registers to include the shelf tag blurb along with the name and price of the wine. Then I wouldn't have to write down or try to remember what the tag said. Also, I could judge more easily whether the wine really delivered what it was said to.

Not on receipt, but Astor Wines includes their website writeup on wines when you get a delivery.

I was going to add what Dale just said, which is the only retailer I know that does anything so special.

I can't speak for Astor, but I'd add that unless the wine shop was truly special - I'm thinking Chambers Street - I would probably skim pretty quickly over any blurbs on the tab, assuming that they were PR BS. :(
