2010 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (2/27/2016)
Catching up on some overdue notes - this was served as part of a 4 wine Burgundy flight where it was preceded by a 2005 Girardin Gevrey Chambertin VV, and Fourrier blew it out of the water as was to be expected. The Fourrier has changed from its wildly exuberant youth, as there is a darker profile now, without the almost carbonic sweet fruit. It is more stately, more Gevrey. What has not changed is the purity. From first sniff through the finish there is nothing to distract from the unvarnished soul of Burgundian Pinot Noir. When I first opened the bottle the aromatics were heavenly, though they did close in a bit after a few hours of air, so perhaps it's time to leave the wine alone for a while so that it can enter the second act. Either way, it was still a delicious bottle, just not quite as expressive as it was in the first half hour.
