A "Garden-Variety" Sauvignon Blanc?

by JC (NC) » Tue Mar 08, 2016 12:50 am

2012 Jordan Winery (Jardin) Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa. Produced by California-trained Gary and Kathy Jordan on their Stellenbosch property. Screwcap. Labeled 13% abv. Certified sustainability of the vineyard. Crisp, pungent, with citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon and perhaps some white pepper seasoning. Mouth-watering finish. Although I liked it, IMO in doesn't challenge the better Loire Valley or New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. I had this with Chinese takeout and as a sipper before dinner. I have two more bottles for a tasting this spring.

Jordan make two savvies, The Outlier is part barrel fermented and, according to Platter, is age worthy.

Of the other, just Sauvignon blanc, Platter gave 4 stars and called it 'elegant'.

I think one gets the zingy NZ freshness on young wines, RSA 2012 vintage is now 4 years old and I'd assume has lost its edge.

Wonder how that wine made it into the US w/o a peep from JordanWnry in Geyserville??
You can bet if their name were Gary & Kathy Gallo or Gary&Kathy Rooster, they'd be sitting in an un-air-conditioned slammer in Modesto or Fresno.

They can't use the name Jordan in the USA and their wines are branded as Jardin in the US

There is a link on this page http://www.jordanwines.com/taste-our-wi ... din-label/
which says 'why we named it Jardin', but it doesn't say why...
