WTN: Carlisle Compagni-Portis WW '14...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Mar 04, 2016 11:35 am

My Carlisle shipment arrived ystrday so I Pobega'd last night:
1. Carlisle Compagni-Portis SonomaCnty WW (13.7%; Plntd: 1954; Pharmed by PhilCoturri; 4 hr cold soak; GWT/TrousseauGris/Riesling; 200 cs) Windsor 2014: Pale gold color; very fragrant/perfumed floral/lychee/bit GWT/mango rather spicy/nutmeg light earthy/mineral fairly complex beautiful nose; soft off-dry(??) rich/lush very perfumed/floral/lychee/mango/spicy light earthy/stony lovely flavor; very long intense floral/lychee/bit GWT/mango/carnations light mineral/earthy finish; loads of perfumey floral character that speaks quietly of GWT w/o straying into the blowsey/hair-oil part of the GWT spectrum; reminds me of a Trentino GWT in its understated manner.
$28.65

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I hate wines like this. Wines that are so good that suddenly you notice the btl is empty. As I was cooking away last night, I would pour anuther glass and think "Damn, that's good". Before I sat down to eat, I noticed the btl was already empty.

2. The edition of C-P seemed a bigger/richer wine than previous editions. This even seemed to have a bit of RS on the palate, but I find that unlikely. Previous editions of C-P seemed a bit more minerally/stony and leaner. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about!!

3. CarlisleWhites: Mike is well-known for the Zinfandels he crafts. In case nobody noticed, he's also been making some darned nice whites over the recent yrs. I think his Gruner is about the best being made in Calif by far.

4. Screwcaps: As I was unpacking my Carlisles last night, I noticed that Mike is moving more towards the use of screwcaps on his "lesser" wines. Good move I say.
