Hobo Wine Company-Fantastic QPR

by Brian K Miller » Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:54 am

I love the wines of Kenny Litkaprong, of the Hobo Wine Company family of wines.

Anyway, two from his stable tonight:

2013 Suisun Valley Charbono-Spicy red plum AND blackberry, earthy, savory, good tannins, great acid kick.

2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. How can a cabernet that is so young and so cheap taste so good? This wine is bracing in its mouth feel, with plenty of acid. Yet, there is also lovely black currant fruit, although the fruit profile trends more to the red side (contradiction?). There is a delicious and fresh herbal quality, without being obnoxious or off putting in any way.

I am not sure how Hobo Wine Company does it. They seem to nail it almost every time across their various labels and marketing themes. Yet, unlike horrific critter wine koolaid, Kenny's wines are almost always vibrant and fresh and yes, "Old World" in character.
