WTN: 2014 Biecher & Schaal Riesling Rosacker, Alsace...

Grand Cru. Reposting of my note from CellarTracker:
Labeled 12.5% abv. I haven't had a Riesling like this in a very long time. I have two more bottles for consumption this spring but have just ordered an additional two to age for several years. The wine is pale in color with transparency. I find it impressive on the nose--pungent with some citrus, acetone elements and I also find a hint of juniper berries. It delivers a bone-dry wine with elegance combined with strength and pronounced minerality. It invites further sipping and is good with food or as a sipper on its own, going down easily. The balance is impeccable if you favor slightly acidic wines as I do. I had it with baked chicken the first evening and with Chinese takeout the following evening.

Interesting TN, jc. Never heard of this producer before. Have you had any of their other wines??
Who was the importer?? Doesn't sound like the Z-H paradigm for Alsace wines.

Julien Schaal is the winemaker. The importer on my bottles is Distinctive Domaines, Raleigh, NC and I purchased them from Westgate Wine in Raleigh. No, I haven't had other wines from this producer but I don't have access to a lot of Alsatian wines. The retail store does carry the 2012 Schaal Riesling Sommerberg, another Grand Cru from Alsace, at sale price of $19.99 (their normal price is $30) and carries other wines from the same producer so I may try some of the others the next time I'm in Raleigh (early or mid-March.) Schaal also makes wine in South Africa, including a Syrah which Westgate Wine sells. Biecher Schaal wines are not in the Z-H style.
