2014 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (2/21/2016)
Drier than many recent versions of this wine, this showed as Spätlese, rather than some overblown Auslese. Peach, pineapple and a touch of cinnamon spice from botrytis on the nose are followed by a vibrant palate expression that heads to the exotic. More tropical fruit, more pulsing, charging acidity and more spices that are somehow captured in a palate expression that is not at all about "more." It's as if the wildness of the wine is somehow caged - waiting to get out, waiting to strike. It's still getting its act together, and perhaps another 3-6 months will see a different wine. There's a turbulence here that suggests change. Watch out for the botrytis though. I would drink this on the young side.
