WTN: Rebholz Im Sonnenschein Riesling

by Rahsaan » Sun Feb 21, 2016 5:09 am

It seems like Nyc was the place to drink German riesling this weekend, but I nonetheless did my best in Berlin.

After a recent experience with a cranky 2011 Rebholz Kastanienbusch, I was curious how the 2011 Rebholz Im Sonnenschein would show. Thankfully it was gorgeous. Salty and golden with a bit more weight than Kastanienbusch, but still loads of brisk internal tension, snap, and delicate poise. Lovely.

I was even happier when the 2012 Rebholz Im Sonnenschein was even lovelier. All the fun elements of 2011, with an extra layer of weight, which I hesitate to call 'fat' because the whole package is still so elegant. Lovely lovely lovely.

Nice! Are these wines from the Pfalz? Dry, I presume, from the TNs.

Yes, dry (these are all GGs), in the Pfalz, and an excellent producer most worth exploring for those who like the more elegant side of things http://www.oekonomierat-rebholz.com/startseite.html

Yes, these are all Berlin retail purchases. I'm here through the summer and drinking lots of Rebholz is one of my priorities.

Bob, I'd love to go to Berlin again. I believe it has again become a vibrant and exciting place. The last and only time I went was when the wall was becoming porous. The west was full of easterners wandering around agape at all the luxury, but the sinister border guards were still there checking carefully all people from the west coming in and leaving. I recall trying to exit the east at Checkpoint Charlie and being send back to Friedrichstrasse where we had come in. We also had to drink a schnapps at a café near the checkpoint to use up the last of our non-exportable Ostmarks.

It would have to be a long weekend. 1200 km one way with nearest airport with direct flights at Orly or CDG.
