2001 Bodegas y Viñedos Alión Ribera del Duero - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero (2/18/2016)
Served blind, double decanted earlier in the AM:

Complex aromas of red berries, leather, subtle spice and flowers - this is fun to smell. It's also fun to drink, as the palate presence is quite silky, and despite the very dark color, the wine is not heavy at all. There is still a bit of tannic framework, and the acids are good, so the balance of the wine is spot on. Yes it's a modern style of wine, but impeccable in its presentation. Very enjoyable!

I've only had one Alion, but I remember being quite impressed with it. I really should buy more Spanish wine.

I should also make plans to drink my one and only Pingus.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Yes, I too like Alion. Your TN fits my memory of the '94 and '95, of which I had a small handful of bottles, now all gone :( . One of the Spanish "moderns", which, like Contino, avoids exaggeration.

If I go way back to some of my handwritten notes I see I tried more of these back when they were young. Given my greater understanding of wine in general I don't see too much value in those impressions.

David, do you know the price point on current vintages of this? If not, I can look it up on wine-searcher.com.
