WTN: Donkey and Goat Grenache

Grenache seems to be trending strongly, and so I grabbed a bottle to share with a friend last night.

2012 Donkey and Goat (Berkeley) Grenache Noir. El Dorado County, California. 14.2% abv nominal. Bottled under screwcap.

Definitely showed the D&G blazing acidity (your tastes may vary in your response to this!). A pretty solid wack of tannins as well. Ran it through Alan's Rube Goldbergesque decanting mechanism, which did calm things down a bit.

Nose was a little confected??????

Palate was much better, though. Did not show the strawberry/white pepper side of Grenache. More licorice, blackberry, some red fruit. No heat on the palate or nose. The fruit is actually lovely with that "natural wine" flavor profile that is to me pretty noticeable across the continents  I quite enjoyed the richness of the fruit profile which seemed to win out somewhat in the battle with acid and tannins. 8) Enjoyable Tuesday night wine!
