WTN: 2011 DaVero Carrignano (Dry Creek Valley)

This was a standout at the wine club party on Saturday! Delicious red fruit, but did not have the "weedy" character of some Carignanes. Instead, there was an attractive earthy, savory, almost Bordeauxesque profile that was very appealing.

Brian,
How was the Sagrantino??? It's pretty pricey as I recall...$65 or so.

Tom:

I enjoy their Sagrantino...more than the limited number of Umbrian examples I have come across. The DaVero version is very bright in fruit, with nice brisk acidity. Of course, there are tannins.

They also produce a killer Sangiovese!

The one Sagrantino I tried I liked a lot as well, Brian...but thought they priced it "aggressively" to soak the market...
which always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The Sangio I also liked a lot.

It's a fun place to visit, and they have great wine club parties, so I grimace and pay.

I am in the "cheaper" club so I don't even get the Sagratino. 8)
