WTN: Swan Estate Syrah '07

by John Treder » Mon Feb 08, 2016 12:07 am

Calif., Russian River Valley, Joseph Swan, Trenton Estate Vineyard, Estate Bottled Syrah, 2007
Delicious from the first taste. While cooking dinner, it was all about fresh fruit, with something like currant or cranberry, almost as if newly bottled.
Beautiful dark red velvet color.
With pan-broiled lamb chop, carrots and baked potato, the peppercorn and earthiness came out.
Club price $23.80 in 8/12. 14.6% alcohol
I've never tasted a Rhone from France this good. Not at 3 times the price.

Thanks for the note, John.

I have to admit I have just not been that excited the last couple times I have visited Swan. Maybe it's me, because they get a lot of love. The Zins were really, really hot, I recall. The Chard was extremely buttery in that cloying, unpleasant way (if I recall correctly).
