NYTimes: Asimov on Valtelline Wines

by TomHill » Fri Feb 05, 2016 10:59 am

A rather nicely done article by Asimov, at his best, on wines of the Valtelline:
Asimov:Valtelline

Hits most of the big names, but NinoNegri is notably absent, for some reason. Too bad he didn't have access to the Balgeras. His favorite was a Dirupi. This is a producer located in a very old church in Ponte that focuses on biodynamic growing and natural winemaking. The one example I had over there in Oct was pretty funky & unclean and way too "natural" for my tastes...a wine only SweetAlice could love.
I, of course, have followed the Valtelline Nebbs from the very start...back when I fell in love w/ the ArturoPellizatti wines in the early '70's.
Anyway...a good read on an area that should get more attention.
