Tried these two last week:
1. Giorgio Zaglia Refosco dal PeduncoloRosso Dd'OC: Friuli Latisana (13%; www.Zaglia.com; VinoDirect LLC/LongBeach) Latisana 2010: Very dark color; very strong black cherry cola/licorice/classic Refosco rather earthy/dusty bit herbal beautiful classic Refosco nose; soft rather tangy/metallic strong Refosco/black cherry cola/licorice/boysenberry/spicy bit plummy flavor w/ light hard/bitey tannins; very long classic Refosco/black cherry cola/licorice some earthy/dusty finish w/ light tight/lean tannins; needs a few yrs of age yet; pretty classic example of Refosco but a bit on the tight/angular side; well-priced at $18.00 (WE)

2. Tenuta Ca'Bolani Refosco dal PeduncoloRosso Dd'OC: Friuli Aquileia (13%) Cervignano/Friuli 2011: Very dark color; strong black cherry cola/Refosco/blackberry some dusty/earthy bit pungent/burning metal/ozone rather classic Refosco nose; very tart/tangy/grapefruity/acidic some black cherry cola/blackberry/licorice rather earthy/loamy/dusty/dishwater flavor w/ hard/rough tannins; long rather black cherry cola/licorice/Refosco rather earthy/loamy/dusty finish w/ ample hard/rough tannins; lots of Refosco character in the nose but pretty hard/rough/tannic on the palate; pleasant enough/interesting in the nose but pretty unpleasant/austere on the palate; a pretty rough/coarse example of Refosco.

1. Latisana is in the provence of Udine, along the Tagliamento river, towards the South and the Adriatic. Aquileia is also in the provence of Udine a bit East of Latisana, but about 10 km from the Adriatic. Both in the south of Friuli-Guiliana. Never had any wines from these two areas before.
