Wine and Food Society dinner at Paolo's home where he prepared an excellent Tuscan feast. Unfortunately, the horse was very tough although flavor was great, but the goat more than made up for it. Lots of wines on the table but only took particular note of what I brought although the Ormanni 2009 Chianti was not bad at all. Other wines of note were the very meaty 1997 Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino and the somewhat muted Tignanello 1997.

My wines:

Ca' Marcanda (Gaja) Vistamare Toscana IGT 2012 - From Gaja's Bolgheri property. 60% Vermentino, 40% Viognier. Quite rich and creamy, obvious oak but not over the top. This has a very California feel to it. Ripe fruit. Very good.

Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra 1999 - Popped and poured. Strong tannins, youthful. Took about an hour in the glass for the tannins to soften. Lovely ripe fruit. Sweet strawberry, raspberry and blueberry. Attractive at this stage but will no doubt develop more complexity as it's all about the fruit now. Lots of sediment. Give it another 5 years at least.

Tamellini Recioto di Soave Vigna Marogne 2007 - Copper tinged, viscous, but not syrupy. Gorgeous tropical fruit flavors of mango, candied jackfruit and candied guava. Real easy to drink. Perfect with the mango panna cotta. Unfortunately, my last bottle.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Thanks Jay.

It always amazes me how long it takes for good Nebbiolo to mature.
