1999 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (1/21/2016)
Immediately aromatic on opening, this showed red fruit and a clear cinnamon spice. Subtle earthy elements became stronger with air, and even got a little funky. The texture of the wine was gentle from the start. There was still some tannin on the back end though, so it still had good structure.
There is plenty of material here for further collaring, and the balance is spot on. It is certainly not "mature" yet, but it is in a lovely place for enjoyable drinking.
2002 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (1/21/2016)
This was served alongside the 1999, and it was not as open. Time in the glass brought it around though, and it ultimately showed it has all the elements to be a delicious Burgundy when it matures. It is still just in a grumpy teen phase. There is plenty of stuffing and the balance is good, so I see no reason to be concerned, just be patient. It did eventually open up and became quite a good drink, just very young.
