WTN: What's a long pass, at game's end, hoping to score

2013 Limerick Lane Hail Mary - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/17/2016)
This is my second wine from the Jake Bilbro edition of Limerick Lane, and I remain baffled as to how he manages to pack so much flavor into the wines without crossing the line for my admittedly AFWE-leaning palate. The up front kirsch/Port cherry fruit is supplemented by minty/sage herb accents that add complexity and keep the exuberance of the fruit from going over the top. Where the wine really comes on strong is through the mid-palate and finish where that fruity/herbal combination is supplemented by licorice and something that seems eerily like orange zest that adds brightness and keeps a fairly big wine from being remotely heavy.

Grape variety/varieties? Or is this supposed to be a test for us based on the descriptors?
