2012 and 2013 Cuvaison "Brandlin" Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon.
I enjoyed sample tastes of both vintages. The 2012 is much darker and showed some powerful tannic structure, even though it was a year older. Blackberry fruit dominated, along with lovely cassis notes.
Over two tastings, the 2013 was very floral, surprisingly so, with more red fruit notes. Tannins not as obvious, interestingly enough, despite the youth!
Both wines were balanced, had a touch of green freshness that was very appealing to me, but also showed some obvious ferrous (iron) minerality that I really liked! Great acid balance as well. Much better wines at a better price than a much pricier wine I had tried earlier that day!
Cuvaison is in Carneros (across from the abomination Domaine Carneros faux chateau with decal "bricks" pasted on the cheap commercial box building). One of the prettiest spots in Carneros, and I really like the eco-chic architecture.
