We tried these two last night after the Radio-Coteaus:

BrocCllrs Syrah BennetVllyVnyd/DryStackVnyd/BennettVlly (15.5%) JCCllrs/Oakland 2003: Very dark color w/ no bricking; rather minty/menthol very strong ripe/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah slight peppery bit alcoholic/Paso-like nose; rather hot/alcoholic very strong very ripe/boysenberry/Syrah/blackberry/framboise slight peppery flavor w/ light ripe/soft tannins; very long very ripe/boysenberry/Syrah/blackberry bit hot/alcoholic light menty/menthol finish w/ light ripe tannins; very much on the very ripe side and doesn't show much the cold-climate/BennetVlly side of Syrah.

BrocCllrs Syrah DryStackVnyd/BennettVlly (15.5%) JCCllrs 2004: Very dark/near black color w/ no bricking; bit alcoholic some toasty/oak intense boysenberry/Syrah/very ripe slight minty/menthol rather chocolaty/licorice rather perfumed nose; soft/fat/lush very ripe/boysenberry/Syrah/blackberry/chocolaty slight minty/menthol some toasty/oak flavor w/ light ripe tannins; very long intense ripe/boysenberry/Syrah/licorice/chocolaty bit alcoholic/hot light toasty/oak finish w/ light ripe tannins.

These Syrahs were very much on the ripe side and didn't show much of the peppery/cold-climate Syrah character you get out of most BennettVlly Syrahs. That said, I thought they had aged pretty well for such ripe Syrahs. They just don't show much complexity you'd expect from 10+ yr old Syrahs.
My impression is that Chris has backed away from this style (he done see'd the light) of wine and is making subtler/more nuanced wines that are more expressive of the vnyd site. When I tasted there in his tasting room a couple of yrs ago, that was certainly my impression. I should (and will) revisit his wines again.
