It`s minus 20 and I`m quaffing Ockfener Scharzberg Riesling!

Guess I should have opened some port but the neighbor wanted a glass of white wine to go with her stilton and veggie samosa appeys !

2013 Meilen Weinkellerei Ockfener Scharzberg Riesling, Mosel Saar Ruwer.

Big cooperative, screw cap, served well chilled, $8 Cdn discount bin downtown!

Very pale straw color, nose was a tad more complex than the palate with peach, red BC apple, pear. Initial entry is not bad for the price, good quaffing wine, light but refreshing. Fair acidity and off dry, held up well over the evening as we also enjoyed some Michel Glasser Viognier from Pays d`Oc. Fun wine, did not expect much but OK.

How did those two whites hold up to the Stilton? Not an instinctive match.

Nagh..whats one to do when its the neighbor!! Had some port ready to go. Not a lot of red wine drinkers around here Tim...they are all snow birds gone down to Arizona .

I would have thought that in -20°, people would prefer a warming red like Châteauneuf du Pape or indeed port . BTW presumably that -20 is F. In C that makes nearly -30, I think. Brrrrr! It's still about 9°C+ here but wet and windy.

Down to about -12 C yesterday evening in Connecticut. No way I was thinking white wine, even with my spicy Indian food.

Wife didn't want anything, so I was free to drink red.
