Tried these two alst night at dinner of cheesy polenta w/ bacon:
1. Ridge LyttonSprings DryCreekVlly/SonomaCnty/Calif (70% Zin/17% PS/10% Carignane/3% Mataro; 14.5%; Bttld: January 2001; Drk: 10/00-10/26:PD) 1999: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; some vanilla/Am.oak very spicy blackberry/Zin/bit peppery quite dusty/OV light licorice/herbal perfumed quite complex nose; lightly tart very spicy/blackberry/Zin/peppery light Am.oak quite dusty/OV fairly ripe/lush/balanced/taut/wiry flavor w/ some ripe/smooth tannins; very long/lingering quite dusty/OV very strong blackberry/raspberry/Zin/very spicy/bit peppery light vanilla/Am.oak very balanced complex finish w/ modest smooth/gentle tannins; seems awfully good right now & don't see it will make it to 2026..but what do I know, Mr.Draper?? $29.00

Ridge Geyserville SonomaCnty/Calif (60% Zin/22% Carignane/12% PS/4% AlicanteBouschet/2% Mataro; 14.5%; bttld: April 95; Drk: 3/95-extended: PD) 1993: Med.color w/ some bricking; fairly strong Am.oak/vanilla/DraperPerfume very spicy/light Zin/blackberry/black cherry rather dusty/OV some earthy/sauvage very fragrant/perfumed some herbal/cinammon/cloves/spice rack lovely complex nose; soft rather rich/lush very spicy/spice rack/cinammon/cloves/cardamon lovely blackberry/raspberry/black cherry/Zin rather dusty/OV light vanilla/oak quite complex flavor w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; very long/lingering very spicy/blackberry/raspberry/Zin light vanilla/oak quite dusty/OV bit earthy/sauvage complex finish w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; very/very spicy and like walking into a Penzey's spice shop; in about as perfect a condition as you could expect.$26.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. When Paul wrote the TN on the LS in 2000, he compared it to the '74 LS, that he said was still showing well in '00 and thought this '99 would be equally long-lived. I don't see it making it to 2026...but you never know. I wouldn't risk it myself.

If Paul suggests a drinking window for the 1999 Lytton springs starting in Oct 2000, early consumption could be difficult since it appears that it wasn't bottled until Jan. 2001!

2026 isn't that far down the road. Balanced wines (and I agree that the '99 Lytton is very well balanced) tend to age quite gracefully, even into their old age. I still have 3 bottles of the '99, and if I can keep my grubby paws off of them (or just plain cannot find them), then one or maybe two might see the mid-20s!

Hmmmmm....so you have that same problem, too, David??? You might wanta start rummaging around in your
garage & see what turns up!!! :lol:

There is nothing in my garage except what is supposed to be there. Now the uncontrolled part of my basement is a whole 'nother story, but your garage tales have me much less worried about a space that never gets above 72.
