WTN: 2002 and 2008 Huet Moelleux Première Trie

by Rahsaan » Sun Dec 27, 2015 11:05 pm

2002 and 2008 Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie

These wines are awesome. Why have I been stuck on sec and demi-sec and not been drinking these more often?

Probably because I rarely find a reason to open them.

But, I decided this holiday season was as good a reason as any.

The 2002 was especially remarkable for its extra years of development and comfort in the mouth. But, the overarching similarity of combining rich succulence, pristine elegance and energetic freshness was my main takeaway.

Glorious.

Yes, I know some would consider this infanticide. But both bottles were too delicious for me to worry about that.

Thanks for that mouth-watering TN, Rahsaan.

I have in my cellar several vintages of Huet moelleux 1ère trie and some from Foreau as well and, like with my German Rieslings with RS and other moelleux from Jurançon, etc, rarely find an occasion for opening them. They are not suitable with European savoury food as an everyday or special occasion wine for two and mostly find their place in our home during the festive season when there are a lot of people round the table. But Christmas has passed and the sweetie chosen this year was a VDN from Maury which is better with chocolate based desserts than Vouvray.

Much as I love these wines, I am moving towards the painful decision to sell them on Ebay. At least there should be a good demand for Huet and Foreau in France but as for the Germans......? Would this mean a reduction in the size of my wine inventory? I guess not. I'd probably use the proceeds to buy dry and real Kabinett German Riesling and dry and demi-sec Vouvray  .

I think he meant dry and real kabinett as separate categories Bob.

But kabinett trocken does still exist. I see it here and there.

In Germany it most definitely exists. A very popular (and useful) category.

But I see how there is not much need for export (dry wines exported being mainly the higher end GGs and such, at least from what I can tell).

Ouch. I've never gotten to the point where my collection was big enough to sell a portion and redistribute the allocation. But, these things happen.

Thank you for the note! I have the 08 but have never tasted this level of Huet before. This feeds my expectations!

The only time I had a glass of Moelleux Premiere Trie was when I was in a restaurant and heard a couple at the next table raving about it so I asked to have some. I think it was the most expensive wine on the wine list available by the glass but it was really special.
