WTN: Kreydenweiss Riesling ClosRebberg '06...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Dec 20, 2015 9:35 pm

Tried this Fri night w/ Susan:
1. MarcKreydenweiss Riesling ClosRebberg AC: Alsace (AuxVignes; 12.5%; MeBaD; Biodynamic) Andlan 2006: Deep gold color; strong gout de petrol/valve oil/pungent slight nutty/ocidized/honeyed slight piney/smokey lovely old R quite complex nose; somewhat tart/lean/metallic/tangy light gout de petrol bit nutty/oxidized/piney/honeyed grapefruity/tangy some complex old R flavor; med.long tart/tangy/metallic/grapefruity bit gout de petrol slight nutty/oxidized/piney complex finish; quite a lovely complex old Alsatian nose but the tangy/metallic character on the palate suggests it's headed downhill; lovely to smell but not so much on the palate; disappointing for a 9 yr old Kreydenweiss. $22.50 (KK)

Not surprising. I have found Kreydenweiss to be poor value over the years. Good when very young, but zero staying power.

Ditto what David said. Plus the fact that the guy is mad as a hatter. Shame on the terroir.

Thanks all for your thoughts on Kreydenweiss. I'd not had any of his wines in probably 15-20 yrs....
and rather liked them back then. Things change, I guess.

Unfortunately modern Alsace is a completely different animal. Producers that once made reliably typical wines no longer do. It takes some getting used to, finding the wines that taste like and act like what we knew as Alsatian wine.
