WTN: 2009 Rebholz Kastanienbusch

by Rahsaan » Sun Dec 20, 2015 11:36 am

Last night I had a lovely bottle of 2009 Rebholz Kastanienbusch GG Riesling. My previous bottle was drunk in early August, and it had the misfortune of coming a day or two after a 2001 Prager Klaus Smaragd, which was much more satisfying. As a result, the Rebholz seemed a bit loose and unfocused in comparison.

However, last night, on its own terms, the 2009 Kastanienbusch was a delightfully delicate drink. It achieved that wondrous feat of being so delicate and so light and so 'thin', yet at the same time having such deep firm focused structural integrity. I came away thinking the wine was almost 'regal', but regardless of the adjective, it was damned good fun!

Comparison versus isolation-one of the more fascinating aspects of wine tasting.
