Actually the first one I've had in a while, but the notion that I ought to be drinking more Muscadet has been mounting, and I think now I'm ready to really dive in!
Chateau de la Chesnaie, Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2012
Low key but excellent nose, with some aromatic depth: subtle but rich notes of orange and orchard fruits, with honey and mineral, and overtones of creme fraiche and cabbage. Similar notes on the palate, with pear and Seville orange upfront, and nectrine/plum notes, honey, and salty mineral toward the finish, all with big, slightly steely acidity. Medium bodied but rich in texture, with satisfying depth. Huge QPR here, this is very compelling for the under $10 that I paid, and I like it a lot; I think this confirms that I’ve been bit by the Muscadet bug. Given its acid structure and texture, I suspect this one can develop for another 10 years. 3 Stars. [12/13/15]
