WTN: Cinder Wines Tempranillo Snake River Valley Idaho 2012

Hey, I'm as surprised as you are, unless maybe if you live in Idaho and have easy access to this wine from the Snake River Valley.

Cinder Wines Tempranillo, Snake River Valley, Idaho, 2012

Blew me away. so I checked up on it, and saw it blew a few other people away as well.

And my wife loved it. Since she's my lodestone taster, that's high praise.

This is a gorgeous and well-made tempranillo. As I wrote elsewhere, it first struck me as more akin to a really fine sangiovese, sans jamminess, just lots of fresh acid-lively slight tart red fruits, with the hint of black fruit and a touch of spice and some mushroom and black olive earthiness lurking underneath.

Really impressive stuff---although the $30 price point gave me serious pause, I will admit.

I'm wanting to do a tasting of Idaho wines, Hoke; good candidate. Not that I can get my hands on any.

Oh, and a question. Where'd you pick this up? Winery only or is it in distribution channels?

Jenise, wine-searcher has it only in Idaho and Utah.

They do have a wine club at the Cinder website, so I would imagine they can ship...but I don't know the legalities.

I had someone send me the wine.

I really was quite impressed with the wine. Had to fight my wife for it. Also held up well over three days (we forced restraint on ourselves.)

The whites of the area, thus far, have not been nearly as impressive. Decent, but not much more than that.

Thanks. A friend's sister lives over that way, and I've put her on the trail.
