Tried this wine last night at dinner:
1. KendricVnyds Syrah ShenandoahVlly/Calif (13.9%; 3'rd vintage; 250 cs; www.KendricVineyards.com) Novato 2006: Med.dark color w/ no bricking; strong spicy/blackberry/Syrah/bit peppery slight ShanandoahVlly/briary/licorice light toasty/oak/smokey quite attractive nose; lightly tart/tangy strong blackberry/Syrah/briary/spicy/brambly slight dusty/earthy light toasty/oak bit complex flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long lightly tart/tangy very spicy/blackberry/Syrah/briary/brambly/licorice light toasty/oak finish w/ light gentle tannins; speaks strongly of ShenandoahVlly/briary/bramble w/o straying into the overripe/jammy territory the Zins can show; quite an attractive Syrah probably near its peak; very good price. $20.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This Syrah comes from Stewart's Mom&Dad's vnyd up in the ShenandoahVlly. Not sure where, exactly, the vnyd is located but from one of the pics, it appears to be on the North side of the Vlly.
Most ShenandoahVlly Syrahs (BillEaston's being the star of the show up there) tend to resemble Zin more than Syrah. Stewart's definitely speaks of Syrah in a loud & clear voice. Quite a nice Syrah I thought.
