Corvina blend. I had a glass of this at Revolution Restaurant in Durham, NC with their eggplant "lasagna" (no pasta but layers of eggplant with Provolone cheese and topped with artichoke heart and Grana Padano cheese.) It was a pretty deep red color with some sparkle. Fruity and appealing on nose and palate. Red berries and cherries. Ready for drinking now.
I ordered a glass of Gerard Bertrand Banyuls after dinner. I was having a dessert of lemon tart with raspberries on the side and I thought possibly the Banyuls might pair okay with the raspberries. Nope, that didn't work, so I finished about half the dessert (as much as I had room for) and sipped the Banyuls on its own.
I stayed overnight in Research Triangle Park area and attended a matinee performance of "Once" in Raleigh the next day after lunch at The Oxford (a British-type pub near the Performing Arts Center.) After the musical, I did a Pinot Noir tasting at Westgate Wine in North Raleigh (and also tasted a Riesling from Alsace) before heading home. If I have my notes from the tasting (will check my car tomorrow), I will post on the Pinots tomorrow.
