WTN: Ridge Zin BuchignaniRanch '10...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Dec 06, 2015 9:30 pm

Tried this today w/ John:
1. Ridge Zin BuchignaniRanch/SonomaCnty (20% Carignane; 14.6%; 36 brls; Bttld: Dec 2011; 60-75 yr old vines;
Drk: 9/11/9/16-9/18: JO) 2010
: Very dark color; very strong raspberry/blackberry/Zin/very spicy rather dusty/OV strong pencilly/vanilla/Am.oak beautiful nose; rather tart very strong raspberry/DCV Zin/very spicy/ blackberry some dusty/OV/complex some vanilla/Am.oak/pencilly rich/nervy balanced flavor w/ modest smooth/rich tannins; very long/lingering bright/very spicy/raspberry/DCV Zin/blackberry quite dusty/OV some pencilly/Am.oak/smokey finish w/ light ripe/gentle tannins; a quintessential DCV Zin; more DCV Zin than the LyttonSprings; one of the best ATP zins ever & of the stature of the LS, if a bit less complex. $30.00 (ATP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Over the yrs, I've often been underwhelmed by the Ridge ATP Zins. So when this Buchignani ATP arrived, I quietly put it aside w/ low expectations. About 6 mo. later when I got around to trying it, in early 2014, I was blown away by how good it was. Of course, when I went back to get more, it was long sold out. Nada...no greul for you. But I whined/pleaded and groveled to MaryDevine and, lo & behold, she managed to find me three additional btls. This is the first of those orphan three. And it is doing very well...thank you.

Excellent. I have never joined the ATP programs. Too many mediocre notes from various sources. Then a note like this comes along and I think again...must stay strong!

Don't do it, David....you can live w/o them.
Over the last few yrs, I sense that Ridge has been upgrading the quality of the ATP wines. But, by & large,
if you buy the Lytton & Geyserville & Pagani; your Zin life will be pretty complete.
