WTN: 2013 Wind Gap Nellessen Syrah

2013 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Nellessen Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (12/6/2015)
Red meat, iron, deep black fruit and an overtone of violets. There is an amazing amount of flavor in this wine, even as it is very tightly wound. It also delivers all of this with less than 12% alcohol. I tried this wine back in June and was very impressed. It's even better than I remember it. Amazing job Pax Mahle!

I tried their 2012 Sonoma Coast Syrah last week and was less than impressed. It was fairly balanced, but showed a little bit too fruity for my preference, and lacked complexity for the price point. Hope this isn't the norm, especially after all the great things I hear about their wines.

As far as Syrah goes, I'm drinking the Voge 2013 Peyrouses right now, so I couldn't be happier!

The 2012 needs cellar time. It was indeed more fruit forward than is the norm for that bottling. Based on my experience with the SC bottling it will be fine in a few years. I sent mine to storage.
