WTN: One-eyed Dujacs

by David M. Bueker » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:35 pm

2011 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis (12/2/2015)
This was a tale of two wines. At first it was all about meaty, smoky and deep berry aromas and flavors. A little later it picked up a disjointed, piney note, though that green element never became dominant (even an hour after the tasting was over - 5 hours after the bottle was opened). I liked the wine for the most part, but would not necessarily consider buying more given the price range. There is better stuff out there for less money.

2013 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (12/2/2015)
Served during the same tasting as the 2011 Dujac M-S-D (though not in the same flight), this was more refined though no less flavorful. The fruit was more elegant - tending to red berries, and it showed a mineral/chalky edge that indicates a need for some cellar time. Floral notes and some richer, smoky tones were also present. I was very impressed by the length of the wine, and it picked up additional depth over the course of several hours. Lovely wine.

I recently put my name down for some Amiot Servelle Burgundies--allocation to be determined. Are you familiar with this domaine and what are your thoughts about it.

I have not had any of their wines since the 1995 vintage. I also decided to take a flyer on a few bottles. We'll see.

The village wines I tasted (2010 and 2011) were pretty good, but the Premier Cru Charmes is one of the most floral wines I've ever tasted, you can actually taste them.
