Best Bang for the (Canadian) Buck!

Great tasting downtown last Saturday at fave wine store, helping out as usual! 60 people stand up, quite a young crowd and all very social. Apart from dessert wine , all wines under $20 Cdn. As Xmas is coming up, many wines flew off the shelf including the Moscato!

Reception wine was the 2014 Conde Villar Branco, a very spritzy Vinho Verde. Nice for the crowd but not my style of VV ...$16.
The 2013 Planeta La Segreta Bianco from Sicily was top drawer but hardly moved which surprised me. $19.
2013 Care Garnacha/Syrah Tinto Joven was OK, not a fruit bomb! Good solid QPR, nice with ham I guess. $13.
2012 Feudo Arancia Stemmari Nero d`Avola, Sicily..smoky, pepper, good fruit balance. Cannot go wrong with this red, $16. Love their whites!
2013 Montes Classic Series Malbec, Chile. Nice entry level juice, funky nose, always consistent, earthy, good fruit. Try the Cab if you can find it! $15.
The 2008 Stags Leap Hawk Crest Cab Sauv was thin and short. 19 Cdn. Label says Napa. Avoid unless the neighbours or in-laws are coming over  .
This one I liked....2012 Maggio Petite Sirah from Lodi. Love PS, $19. Exotic finish, good fruit, needs airing, 13 %alc is good, not a fruit bomb. I take 2 bottles!
Wow... a Moscato d`Asti from Adriano 2014. V v good, clean crisp refreshing, nice spritz. Beautiful package, my friend up north will go crazy over this one.....$24
