I am pretty sure these were my first bottles of 2013 red Burgundy, so I am not the guy to make an evaluation of the vintage. But, they were delicious. I can evaluate that.
I was very happy with the 2013 Louis Boillot Gevrey Chambertin because that clear crunchy juicy jeweled fruit is so distinctively Burgundy and so distinctively delicious. It may not (yet) be distinctively 'Gevrey' and there may be more to come with age. But the clear fruity jewels of young red Burgundy is a unique expression, and I am happy to indulge.
The aging requirements for 2013 Louis Boillot Volnay Les Brouillards were much more obvious. This required many hours to come out of the tight shell. By the end, there was a nice interplay between the dark layers and the light bright crystalline finesse. I'll see you again in several years my friend.
So, I can't say I learned much about 2013 red Burgundy. But I enjoyed these wines and am guessing that the reported 'vivid freshness' of the vintage will be delicious in the right hands (and for the right palates).
