My first 2014 Beaujolly from Julienas!

2014 Domaine du Bois de la Salle Julienas.

My first `14 Beaujolly and not a great success as it airs and develops in the glass. Initially top drawer, nice Gamay style but with hamburgers sauteed in the pan with a tomato marinara sauce, it was a clash.,. we all know about tomato sauce food match ups eh. After the meal, I found the finish was very acidic and quite the opposite from when I opened the bottle.
Anyhows have 2 glasses left so we will see how if it develops. I did check with CT notes and a few do mention the level of acidity with Julienas. Not that I have noticed before.

Well, it`s day 2 and nothing going on here forumites. Sad effort for what is supposed to be a very good vintage.

2014 is indeed a good vintage in the area but the RVF guide Les Bonnes Affaires du Vin 2016 writes re Juliénas "Les structures rigides et un peu plus rustiques demandent à se détendre après un an en cave pour les 2014". As far as I can tell from a bit of Googling Bois de la Salle looks like a label from the Juliénas co-operative. That doesn't make it automatically bad, of course, but one is usually better off with a known individual producer. One wonders why your importer didn't take the trouble to find a better example.

I read on the RVF website that 2015 has produced some excellent B Nouveau, particularly from well known suspects like J-P Brun and Vissoux. Producers with a good name to lose can usually be relied upon for a decent BN but those are not what one finds in large scale outlets.

I did notice the reference to Julienas co-op Tim. Sometimes I wonder if wine store owners taste everything they put on the shelf?

Of course they don't. What makes you think they do?
