Head'sUp on New Ridge Pagani '13

The Ridge Pagani has always been one of my favorites in the Ridge portfolio, often in many yrs my favorite. It has a rather sauvage/earthy/rustic character and resembles the Ridge Zins from the '70's more than their others. I attribute this to the Alicante it has in the blend.
We had the new '13 (16% Alicante) last night and, be forewarned, it's a different beast of a Pagani than more recent ones.
Although the canonical 14.8% alcohol, the wine showed a lot of very ripe character that some in the group didn't care for. They thought it too over-the-top and somewhat confected.
I actually liked the wine a lot because it reminded me a lot of those early Ridge Zins of the '70's.
But, be forewarned on the Pagani '13. Taste before you buy in any quantity. Me...I'm going back for more.

Sounds interesting. Unfortunately WineSearcher shows no stockists in UK.

I did very much enjoy the two Ridge Lytton Springs 2012 Zin blends I had last week in VA

Tom: The wine you described sounds intriguing.

I wonder what happened, as when I tasted this fall, the wine had a very distinctive and unpleasant (to me) almost sugary note to it I found unpleasant???? As in grains of sugar in the mouth!

Almost more like one of the Earthquake Zins (shudder) than a Ridge wine.
