by Peter May » Sun Nov 08, 2015 12:39 pm

We had a tutored tasting of the following before lunch, courtesy Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux , finishing the bottles with lunch plus extra

all 2012 vintage shared between 10 on our table

Ch Pape Clement Blanc - Pessac-Leognan

Domain le Chevalier - Pessac-Leognan

Ch Troplong Mondot - Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Ch La Lagune - Haut-Medoc

Ch Lascombes - Margaux

Ch Leoville-Barton - Saint Julian

Ch Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - Pauillac

extra wine with lunch, two bottles of

Ch Beauregard - Pomerol

Autumn Spinach Salad
(thinly sliced red onion, dried cranberries, toasted almond & balsamic vinaigrette)

Blacken Spiced Strip Steak
crushed fingerlings mash, shallot bordelaise
Haricots Vert

Trio de Chocolat
chocolate ganache, dark, milk, and white chocolate
mousse layers finished with darkchocolateshavings

All were damned delicious and I stopped note taking and just enjoyed them !!

Darn good conference, and now hoping my plane home tonight is on time, unlike the outward bound which went technical resulting in 24 hour delayy

I am reading in the French wine press that the 2012s are good for near term drinking and your report seems to confirm that. There were 9 bottles between 10 of you; were they all finished? :D

Thanks Peter.

I have been wondering about the 2012 vintage, as I think it will eventually get steeply discounted (along with 2011). Almost nobody buys the "lesser" vintages anymore, despite the fact that most of them would have been considered legendary had they come during the '60s, '70s or even the '80s.
