A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. SanCarlo: When we asked for restaurant suggestions for local Valtelline cuisine, Daniela & Paolo at Balgera both strong recommended RistoranteSanCarlo just down the street, on the main drag thru Chiuro.
RistoranteSanCarlo
Their rec was spot on. The food was outstanding rustic Valtelline cuisine. It is housed in an old bldg built in 1843 as a hotel. Lots of history in it. The daughter of the owner was eager to show us the old cellar below, where there was a bunch of salamis curing and cheeses aging and their wine cellar aging. It was used during WWII to escape the Nazis. A wonderful place, filled w/ locals, to try the local cuisine.

2. A.Pelizzatti: This was the producer that, back in the early '70's at LiquorMart, caused me to fall in love w/ Nebbiolo and the Valtelline. A shame it took me so long to actually get here.
The firm's wines disappeared from the US market in the mid-'70's, never to be seen (by me) again. Auturo's daughter & son went on to found the ArPePe (Arturo Pelizzatti-Perego) wnry in Sondrio. So I assumed this was just the successor to A.Pelizzatti. So I was quite surprised to see a modern A.Pelizzatti wine on the superb SanCarlo wine list. So I had to take a trip down memory lane and ordered the wine.
It turns out the name/label is now owned by NinoNegri. The wine was not as good as I remember to A,Pelizzattis of old, and more in the NinoNegri style of smooth/polished/svelte Nebbs...but still quite good and spoke strongly of Valtelline Nebbiolo.
