Tried these two new (to me) Rieslings on Sat:
1. Dom.Bernhard&Reibel Riesling Tradition AC: Vin d'Alsace (MeBaD; 12%; CircoVino/Tuscon) PierreBernhard/Chatenois 2013: Med.light yellow color; rather stony/mineral/flinty/chalky/Mosel-like slight floral/R some perfumed nose; very tart/tangy/metallic quite dry/bit austere Mosel/flinty/mineral/stony light floral/R/pineapple flavor; very long flinty/mineral/stony/Mosel-like light floral/R/pineapple very dry/austere finish; very unlike most current Alsatian R w/ not a lot of fruit but needs age and will probably go out 10-15 yrs. $23.50/1 litre (KK)
__________
2. Ch.Bela Riesling SturovoRegion/Muzla/Slovakia (14%) EgonMuller/Bela 2013: Pale gold color; rather floral/R/pineapple/mango/fruity slight herbal/new mown hay/grassy/almost SauvBlanc-like rather interesting nose; bit frizzante/prickly soft ripe/floral/pineapple/mango/MtnDew bit bubble gum (Fleer's) bit herbal/SB-like flavor; med.long floral/R/pineapply/mango/MtnDew slight herbal/earthy/SB-like/grassy finish; a rather strange rendition of R but a tasty white at a fair price. $18.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The B&R Riesling is very much like the old-timey Alsatian R that I used to have in the '70's, back afore the Z-H style pretty much drove out traditional R. It's not a great pleasure to drink now, but I suspect, like those R of yore, will grow into something very good. I'd never seen an Alsatian wine put up in a non-traditionally shaped 1 litre btl.

2. Never had a Slovakian wine before. This wine is made at the Hotel Ch.Bela, w/ EgonMuller as a consultant. They also make a CabSauv and ice&straw wines. Imported by FrederickWildman.
