Tried this last night at dinner at Cam's:
1. Scarpa DOC: Monferrato Freisa Secco LaSelva di Moirano (13.5%; 2,112 btls; www.PortoVinoItaliano.com) NizzaMonferrato 1999: Med.color w/ slight bricking; rather dusty/earthy very smokey/pungent some tarry/truffly/mushroomy some perfumed/violets rather Barolo-like beautiful nose; lightly tart smooth/velvety light pungent/tarry/truffly/smokey light floral/lilacs/violets complex flavor w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; very long/lingering smooth/textured/velvety lightly floral/violets/truffly/tarry/smokey/bit earthy finish w/ light/smooth tannins; a dead-ringer for a fully mature Barolo but w/o the tannic bite; a reasonably priced red for someone who wants a mature B/B experience except the label doesn't say Barolo so not a wine for label-drinkers. $67.00 (AmsterdamWineCo)

1. Scarpa has a special place in my heart. Back around '80, Darrell imported the first Scarpa to the USofA and I bought a bunch...at stupid/silly prices. It led to my current love for Nebbiolo. It also introduced me to the Freisa and Brachetto grapes and fueled my current love for those varieties. Thank you Darrell. Nice to see that Scarpa still has their very high standards.
