WTN: 2012 Lucien Crochet "Le Chene" Sancerre, Loire Valley

Acidic, lemony, attractive. Pronounced minerality and a slight herbal note--perhaps chervil or lemongrass. This would pair well with spring asparagus. I had it with Chinese sesame chicken, broccoli, and fried rice. Comparable to the 2013 Daulny Sancerre Le Clos de Chaudenay and I preferred it to the 2013 Alphonse Mellot Sancerre "La Moussiere." Long ago a Lucien Crochet le Chene was my first Sancerre ever, which set the bar pretty high for any and all that came after it. I also remember that I paired it with a vegetarian pasta/asparagus/red bell pepper dish from the Union Square Café cookbook. Each separately divine, but together: magnificent.

I have liked the "Le Chene" any time I've had one. I got a chuckle when at a Raleigh restaurant (or was it at the retail wine shop?) a lady asked for that Sancerre from Mr. Crockett.

Are you sure that lady wasn't my husband? :)

He struggles with language.
