WTN Gigondas, Medoc, Beaujolais

Rosenthal Wine Merchants (a good sign for me!)

2012 Domain du Gour Chaule
Lovely wine on the rich side, with some heat from alcohol (14.5% abv). While the cepage is mostly Grenache, this is darker fruit than strawberry. Black pepper dominates in a lovely way. Very savory wine, and I really like the mouthfeel and texture, despite the heat.

2011 Chateau Moulin de Tricot Haut Medoc. 75% Cabernet. confirmed by the palate and nose. Classic cedary, earthy, savory nose with some fine grained, lovely tannins. Dark fruit, cassis. Lovely mid-priced Bordeaux ($30ish).

My Wine:

2013 Lapierre Morgon (Beaujolais). A multifaceted Cru Beaujo. White pepper, plenty of fresh acidity. Description online mentions "potpourri" and that really comes through-there is a multifaceted berry freshness here. Quite ripe. Definitely still a "natural wine" funkiness or character coming through here. My favorite element was that white pepper.

"Berry freshness" is a nice descriptor for young Lapierre. I will have to remember that one.

Agreed, good note on Lapierre

I thought Moulin de Tricot was Margaux?

Part of their vineyard only qualifies for Haut Medoc, Dale.

For a very young wine from a "bad"? year, I thought it was pretty "classic" Left Bank in styling, to my very limited experience! No New World goopiness!

Are there really any bad years in Bordeaux anymore?
